The journey time from the airport by taxi (fastest way) is 30 minutes, by Airport Express bus or metro approx 45 minutes.

Customs is usually just a formality, but if you are unlucky to be pulled out for a random inspection, then it could hold you up by another 10 or 15 minutes. Depending on how many flights land around the same time as your flight, immigration lines can be long sometimes, but the biggest hold up is always at baggage reclaim which can be slow. If the meeting point is to be in Central Madrid, then you will not have enough time. To the OP: It is frustrating that you have not been told about your meeting point as this can make a big difference. I recently returned from a long haul flight and there were 4 officers pulling people over in the nothing to declare area at Madrid T4 as passengers passed through. I have seen this happen numerous times in Madrid and other airports. This is not strictly true! Customs officers are often present in the nothing to declare section and sometimes do pull people out for a random, or targeted inspection.
